SHOUT! The Mod Musical

*NOTE: Most of the professional images above feature Haley Bolithon as Red.

Marcela was fortunate enough to perform as principal Red on several occasions including: Events, previews, opening night, talk-backs, last minute put-ins, half the rehearsal process, etc.

“On the night of this review, understudy Marcela Ferrarone played the character of Red – doing an incredibly impressive job. Ferrarone gives the audience someone to feel empathy for. She brilliantly captures the awkwardness of being a young woman, amplified by the unique flavor the 1960s specifically. She is an entertaining singer that fits right in with the other great voices.”

The Life and Times

“Director Madison Smith is working with an extremely talented cast, including local performers Haley Bolithon and Marcela Ferrarone of Arlington Heights.”

Broadway World

“Red (played by understudy Marcela Ferrarone on opening night) is naive and a bit awkward… Understanding the script gives the five talented actresses in the cast very little to work with, all five still turn in great performances that rise above the material. That’s not always easy to do. It is a sign of true talent.”

The Abode

Pepperdine Scotland is the multi-award-winning cultural and artistic exchange between Pepperdine University’s Department of Theatre and leading members of the Scottish Theatre Community. Pepperdine University has been performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 1985, and has been operating the expanded Pepperdine Scotland exchange since 2012 with support from Playwrights’ Studio Scotland and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

“This is an aggressive, fast-paced tale that tears at the flesh of an establishment harbouring an undercurrent of racism, mysogyny and hate, and showing how vulnerable young men can be enticed into becoming followers of alternative movements.

Twelve actors from Pepperdine Scotland, a cultural and artistic exchange, deliver a strident and disturbing vision of an ugly, warped world in a gripping piece of theatre.”

The Abode is overwhelming but the superb ensemble cast – made up of a dozen fresh-faced performers from California's Pepperdine University – keep things lucid. As well as essaying characters on opposite sides of the political spectrum, they also act as choruses to Samuel’s odyssey, commenting on the action and helping to elucidate the mind-bending plot… You’ll find few more imaginatively staged shows at this year’s Fringe.”
